Profile

A former high school English teacher, I use my writing and teaching background to inform my ux and graphic design decisions.

My current interest is primarily ix/ux design, but I am also obsessed with all things type, book, and motion. (Yes, that’s an Oxford comma.)

User experience research and design is a culmination of my previous work: my knowledge and understanding of people, of how they think and learn, along with my visual design training that focused on the needs of the audience, combine to make me a better user experience researcher and designer.

I have skills and experience in designing and moderating in-person and remote usability studies, diary studies, email surveys, card sorting, tree testing, user interviews, ethnographic research, both paper and digital prototype testing, and search engine optimization. My interest in user-centered design is founded in social justice and a belief that great design makes interactions more accessible and more equitable, so I am also able to audit and maintain web accessibility standards.

Design is just like world-building in a story – the first paragraph or line of a story or poem teaches the reader how to read that work, and the first interaction with a product, building, utensil, magazine – any designed object – teaches your user how to use and interact with it.

I’ve always been fascinated by stories. Whether it’s told in words, images, moving images, or interactions, a good story will always be a good story, and a great story reminds us of our own humanity. So does great design.
